Hours-long standoff in Walton leads to arrest

WALTON – N.Y. State Police and SWAT teams responded to a standoff incident in the Town of Walton, Delaware County Tuesday evening.

According to State Police Public Information Officer Nathan Riegal the 'barricaded subject' was hold up in a residence on Third Brook Road, Walton, a situation that caused a tense standoff with police that went on for hours.

The incident began in late afternoon as a routine domestic disturbance call, according to scanner reports, later segueing into the nearly five-hour-long negotiation between the male subject and authorities, confirmed Riegal.

According to Riegal, the man – identified as 58-year-old Arthur Veprovsky of Walton – locked himself inside a shared residence on Third Brook Road, refusing to come out or cooperate with police.

Authorities allege that Veprovsky threatened his girlfriend in their home Tuesday afternoon – prompting nearby neighbors called police to report the situation.
