Sheriff’s Office arrest two in drug raid
SHERBURNE – A long investigation into the sale of heroin in Sherburne led to the arrest of two people over the weekend.
Shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday, the Chenango Chenango Sheriff’s Office, with help from the City of Norwich and Village of Sherburne police departments, conducted a no-knock search warrant at 30 Classic St. in the Village of Sherburne.
According to police, the warrant was issued on belief that 50-year-old Frederick T. Harty Jr. was using the residence to sell illegal drugs.
During the raid, police uncovered heroin, scales, packaging material, and pills that were kept in the residence unlawfully.
Harty was charged with the class B felony of criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell in the third degree; criminal nuisance in the first degree; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree; and criminally possessing drug paraphernalia.
Tabitha A. Harty, 46, was also charged with criminal nuisance in the first degree.
Frederick Harty was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County jail on $20,000 cash bail, while Tabitha (also arraigned in Norwich Town Court) was remanded on $2,000 cash bail.
Both are scheduled to reappear in court at a later date.
