Man arrested after death investigation no longer in custody

NORWICH – A man who was arrested upon police investigation of a death at a South Plymouth home is no longer in custody, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Corrections Division.
Mark Pontario, age 50, was arrested by state police and was remanded to the Chenango County jail on Friday with charges of criminal possession of marijuana in the second degree, a class D felony; criminal possession of a firearm, a class E felony; and unlawfully growing cannabis, a misdemeanor.
The Corrections Division was unable to say when Pontario was released from custody, nor that bail was posted. Pontario’s attorney and the Chenango County District Attorney were unavailable for comment Monday morning.
State troopers said Friday that Pontario was arrested after they investigated an unattended death at 162 One Eye Street in South Plymouth. Police say the deceased woman, 25-year-old Kristina Wilkinson, was found unresponsive by friends.
Investigators also believe that Wilkinson lived in the South Plymouth home with Pontario and his wife.
Wilkinson was sent to Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton for an autopsy. Results have yet to be publically released.
During the course of the investigation, police found approximately 1.7 pounds of marijuana inside Pontario’s home, along with 18 marijuana plants, marijuana growing equipment, and an unregistered handgun.
