6 On The Square presents fiery guitarist Brooks Williams

OXFORD – This Saturday, beginning at 8 p.m., 6 On The Square (6OTS) is proud to welcome back Roots n’ Blues premier guitarist and singer-songwriter Brooks Williams.
For more than 25 years Brooks, self-proclaimed ‘certified road-warrior’ has been wowing audiences from Belfast to Boston with his powerful acoustic and resonator slide guitars. Ranked one of the “Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists,” Williams writes groove-laden songs and delivers them with an easy-going vocal style.
Born in Statesboro, Georgia, Williams’ southern roots took hold of his music when he moved to Boston, Massachusetts, in his late teens. It was there, in the little clubs and raucous bars of New York and New England, that he developed his sound. Brooks delivers the deepest and most intense interpretations of everything from early blues songs to his recent original compositions. He’s a musician of staggering depth and breadth, and monstrous guitar chops.
At last count, Williams has 20 albums to his name – including his latest CD released in 2014, “Shreveport Sessions” from his New Everything Tour.
Recorded in Shreveport, Louisiana, it features tour favorites with Brooks alternating between resonator slide and acoustic guitar.
His music has been played on the BBC (UK), RTE (Ireland), CBC (Canada) and NPR (USA) and has charted on the FOLKDJ stations. Brooks can also be heard on Satellite and Internet radio throughout the world. WUMB-FM radio in Boston USA voted him one of their Top 100 Artists.
Williams devotes a portion of each year leading workshops on blues and Americana guitar, as well as roots music songwriting. He has taught at Swannanoa Gathering and SAMW in the USA, Creative Vacances in France, Guitar Retreats and Anglia Ruskin University in the UK, to name but a few.
In 2012 Williams was awarded an Arts Award by the Cambridgeshire (UK) District Council for his involvement in the local arts scene. Also in 2012, Williams contributed his voice and guitar to BBC Radio 2’s Radio Ballads, a six-week broadcast celebrating the London 2012 Olympics.
“He possesses a melodic virtuosity on the guitar that runs like liquid from his fingers...”
