Local toastmasters club to host open house

NORWICH – The Preferred Toastmasters Club invites all who are interested in brushing up on their public speaking skills to attend an open house event scheduled for 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Chenango County Council of the Arts, W. Main Street in Norwich.
The Preferred Toastmaster Club is the local chapter of Toastmasters International, a nonprofit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping members improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills.
“Speaking in public is the number one fear of a lot of people,” said Jim Reynolds of the Preferred Toastmasters Club. “If they can get over that, they have a lot more opportunity.”
Wednesday’s open house will feature a discussion and networking opportunities, along with a DVD showing of this year’s World Championship of Public Speaking from the 2015 Toastmasters International Convention in Las Vegas.
It will also include refreshments and door prizes. The event is free and open to anyone and everyone interested in public speaking.
“We have people from all walks of life – people who have never spoken in public before to people who do it for a living, but want to get better,” said Reyolds. “It’s an encouraging, supportive group.”
