OXFORD – Everyone faces challenges in their life as they grow up, even Hercules, son of the mighty Zeus.
On Thursday, Nov. 19 beginning at 6:30 p.m, the Castle Creek, N.Y. based Robert Rogers Puppet Company will make a re-scheduled stop at the Oxford Memorial Library next week for the librarys' November installment of Family Night to share the intriguing story of young Hercules who – while very strong – faced the same problems and challenges that all other children face.
Like all children, young Hercules has to deal with the ordinary struggles: from trying to fit in with the other kids, to living up to his father’s high expectations. The show teaches young audiences the importance of perseverence under pressure; and how mortals face similar adversities.
Robert Rogers has been a puppeteer for more than 30 years “inspiring creativity in children and helping them develop a better understanding of the world around them.”
Raised near New York City, Rogers was frequently exposed to the theatre and performing arts at a young age thanks to his parents. Since then, he has traveled the globe sharing his art an passion with countless audiences young and old.
In addition to being an accomplished theater producer, director, playwright and designer, Rodgers has devoted much time to teaching young people the art of puppetry as a means of self expression, and has been an advocate of integrating the performing arts into the public school curriculum.
In 1999 he established The American Puppetry Project, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to helping students explore topics of study in the classroom by means of puppet-making and dramatic arts workshops and residencies.
Rogers uses his wonderfully crafted puppets to “address important issues such as responsibility, honesty and friendship with humor and song, surprise and suspense,” according to Rogers.
The program hosted by the Oxford Memorial Library is made possible with public funds from the Chenango Arts Council’s Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the NYS Council on the Arts, with support from Gov. Cuomo and the NYS Legislature.
