New York State Troopers warn of fake IRS scam

BINGHAMTON – The New York State Police at Binghamton have recently received several reports of telephone callers claiming to be from the IRS.
These reports have indicated that the callers aggressively demand the resident pay money to clear up an outstanding tax debt, or face criminal charges.
It is feared that this scam may continue to increase as we near the holidays and the end of the tax year.
The public is being advised that the IRS does not make phone calls in this manner, and anyone receiving a telephone call of this nature should check with the local IRS office.
Anyone with more information or a complaint can call the New York State Troopers Troop C at Binghamton at: 607-775-1241.
