Chenango County Grand Jury indicts three in court

NORWICH – A Chenango County grand jury met earlier this week to determine indictments for the month of December, and subsequently saw three individuals indicted.

• Michael E. Lovette, 51, of Norwich was indicted on two felony charges, as well as two misdemeanor charges. Lovette was charged with assault in the second degree, a class D felony; criminal contempt in the first degree, a class E felony; assault in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a class A misdemeanor.

It is alleged that Lovette, on Dec. 6, in the City of Norwich, did intentionally cause physical injury to the victim. Lovette allegedly did so by repeatedly punching and choking the victim with both hands, causing serious disfigurement to the upper lip as well caused bruising and abrasions. These actions did violate a previous order of protection that had been issued by the Norwich City Court on March 19, 2015.

• Joshua T. Whaley, 32, of Pitcher was indicted on three felony charges and one misdemeanor. Whaley was charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, a class E felony; two counts of criminal contempt in the first degree, a class E felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
