Wet fertilizer to blame in Friday blaze

NORWICH – An evening blaze in the City of Norwich sent Engine Companies from the City of Norwich, Village of Oxford and Town of North Norwich Fire Departments to 69 Rexford St. in the City's fourth ward Friday evening.

Traffic control was swiftly managed by the Norwich Police Department who worked in concert with NFD's Fire Police as crews worked to knock down the working fire of the two-story post and beam style garage located near the rear property boundary that divides the Rexford street property from the adjoining property on the east end of Berry Street to the north.

According to county 911 dispatch records, the initial call for the fire was received shortly before 5:30 p.m., approximately an hour after dark.

Given the proximity to other structures near the property's boundary lines, firemen conducted both offensive and defensive attack in an effort to contain the damage.
