Heart attack blamed for Sherburne accident

SHERBURNE – Police now believe a heart attack is to blame for last week’s deadly accident near Knapp Road in the Town of Sherburne.
According to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, 69-year-old Larry Cooley of Sayre, Penn. suffered a heart attack while driving south on State Route 12, causing him to veer into the northbound lane and hit Sherburne resident Lance Yerton head-on.
Both victims were transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica, Yerton with unspecified leg and face injuries. Cooley was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in their investigation by the Sherburne Fire Department and Sherburne EMS.
