Chenango Bureau of Fire receives $82K grant
NORWICH – The Chenango County Bureau of Fire has received a federal grant which the department says will help it improve response to local disasters.
The State Homeland Security Program (SHSP) recently awarded the Chenagno Bureau of Fire with an $82,000 performance grant. The SHSP grant is appropriated by the Department of Homeland Security and is designed to enhance the ability of local governments to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks and other disasters.
Every county in the State, along with the City of New York, receives SHSP funding.
While the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) do identify key programmatic priorities for SHSP grants, New York State has also made efforts to allow sub-recipients some flexibility in determining their own unique programming priorities. According to the NYS Department of Homeland Security, this allows counties like Chenango to tailor their grant projects to meet their own unique needs.
