Blackhawk wrestlers continue impressive form
UNATEGO – The Oxford Blackhawks wrestlers improved to 7-12 last Wednesday night as they defeated Unatego, 55-24.
This meet was once again a story of forfeits, as Oxford finished winning five of the last six matches of the night by forfeit, while Unatego also had two earlier wins due to forfeits.
Regardless of the forfeit wins, the Blackhawks wrestled impressively in the victory, and collected five pins, at the 138, 145, 182, 195 and 220-weight pound classes.
The meet started out with the 138-pound weight class, where Oxford’s Zach Tepfenhart pinned Unatego’s Tristan Knusten after 3:36. The next match also resulted in a pin for the Blackhawks, as Darren Law pinned Colby Flamensfeld after 4:34.
Unatego scored their first points in the meet when Trenton Gloeckler got a close 2-0 decision win over Corey Marshman in a close bought.
After two consecutive Unatego wins by forfeit, the Blackhawks came back with two pins. The two teams battled back and forth before the final five of six matches finished as forfeit wins for the Blackhawks to allow them to win comfortably.
Next up for the Blackhawks is a test against Ithaca next Thursday night, Jan. 28. The meet is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
