Volleyball graduates five on Senior Night
SHERBURNE– The lady Marauders dropped a 0-3 match against Morrisville-Eaton Central high school yesterday evening.
Prior to the game starting, they held their Senior Night awards ceremony where they wished five of their team a farewell.
The graduating seniors for S-E were: Kaylee Scott, Bri Adsit, Karah Smith, Lexi Bornes and Kaitlyn Cummings.
The first set saw M-E just out to a slight lead at 4-1, only to see S-E battle right back to close the gap. Morrisville proved too much to keep pace with however, as they chipped away, eventually securing the set by 10-points winning 25-15.
“They played tough,” said Sherburne head coach Ed Holmquist.
The second set seemed to be a blueprint of the first set. S-E did manage to keep pace with their opponent for the most part, closing the gap to just 15-13 at one point. Morrisville would prove too much again as they outlasted an S-E comeback attempt to win 25-19.
In must win fashion and playing on their home court for Senior Night, S-E in the third set of the night had their best set on the night.
The lady Marauders capitalized off of some of their opponent’s mistakes and claimed their first lead on the night halfway through the third set, 12-10.
“They kept coming back, this game meant something to them. Obviously the score didn’t reflect where we wanted to be tonight. But they played hard and I expect good things out of the underclassmen coming up,” said Holmquist.
This lead was short lived, as Morrisville reclaimed their composure and went on to close out the matchup winning 25-16.
“Some of the girls here have played their butts off for three or four years, and played through tough times, I am proud of them,” said Holmquist in regards to two of his graduating seniors. “Kaylee is one of our emotional leaders and certainly Bri, well she really is the nucleus of our team.”
“We have got to regroup and come back, we just have to try to build on this tonight,” said Holmquist.
