2016 Perch Derby set for Feb. 6
The Oxford Lions Club is pleased to announce that NBT Bank is sponsoring $1,000 prize for the first perch caught with the 2016 tag at the Chenango Lake Perch Derby.
The Derby will be held on Feb. 6, 2016 from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. as it has been in the past.
It should be noted that if no tagged perch is caught the $1,000 will be raffled off to registered anglers only.
Chobani is sponsoring the $500 prize for the angler who catches a second tagged perch this year.
Registration is $5 on the ice, the day of the event and begins at 6 a.m. Preregister by January 31, 2016 for only $4, forms are available at Mayhood’s Sporting Goods in Norwich or at www.oxfordlions.org.
The Oxford Lions Club would like all who attend the event to know they will have hot food and drinks available on the ice during the event.
“We had a fantastic turnout last year,” said Chairperson Jared Bartle. “and we are hoping for an even bigger turnout in 2016. This is an event for the whole family to enjoy.”
Prizes will be given away for the largest perch caught every fifteen-minutes of the Derby.
Proceeds from the Derby will be used to fund many community projects that the Oxford Lions Club supports such as the recent Jim Podraza Holiday Dinner, which provided meals for over 200 people.
A large raffle will be held in conjunction with the Derby. This raffle is currently in progress and will be drawn on Derby day.
All raffle prizes are at least $100 value and tickets are on sale now from any Oxford Lions Club member. They will also be on sale on the ice during the Perch Derby.
