OXFORD – Blackhawks seniors Kevin Davis, Nick Neer, Angelo Gonzalez, Trenton Lyons and Damon Maricle bled black and red as they took the UV Storm by force in the last five minutes of the game Tuesday night.
Oxford was leading in the first and second quarters, and the UV Storm took the lead in the third.
The Blackhawks and Storm were neck and neck going into the fourth tied up at 34.
The Storm then had a four point run making it 40-36, Storm on top.
Oxford held strong and came back with two points and then another two points from number 21 Trenton Lyons to tie it back up at 40-40.
Both teams held strong with both their defense and offense, and shooting back to back to keep up the tie game kept the crowd in suspense.
A basket from Oxford senior Nick Neer tied it at 44. With just two minutes remaining on the clock, the Oxford seniors turned it up a notch with a three-pointer from Kevin Davis followed up with a foul shot from Angelo Gonzalez and two more foul shots by Davis.
Head Coach Tim Davis of Oxford said, "Great team effort by the Blackhawks on senior night. Tough defense especially in the first half led us to a 24-17 lead at halftime. Score was tied at 44 with under 2 minutes to go and Kevin Davis hit a 3-point shot to take a 3 point lead. Our defense prevailed and got the ball back with under a minute to go.”
The UV Storm had a 3-point basket at the last second, but just wasn’t enough to take home a win during Oxford’s very own senior night.
Final Score Oxford Blackhawks 50, Storm 47.
