Oxford Library preps for Backyard Birdcount

OXFORD –In conjunc- tion with the National Audubon Society's annual “Great Backyard Bird Count,” slated this year for Feb. 12 – 15, staff members at the Oxford Memorial Library have organized a bird-feeder build workshop to lure the winged creatures in ahead of the count.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. this thursday, Jan. 4 at the

Oxford memorial Library on Fort Hill; Oxford communi- ty children and adults alike are invited to craft their own recycled-materials bird feed- er for “the little puffs of feathers on a wire.” The community enrichment activity is an effort to bring the birds in closer for obser- vation and counting–all in the name of science.

During the National Bird Count, participants can plot their location and species sightings with a vast net-

work of other avian enthusi- asts worldwide. The data will be collected by the Autobahn Society, and is uti- lized to track the health and trends of migratory birds across the U.S.
