New Berlin Police Officer released from hospital after being hit by drunk driver
PITTSFIELD – Local New Berlin Police Officer was transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital for injuries following a two car motor vehicle accident which was initiated by a drunk driver.
The Officer was transported to the Chenango Memorial Hospital for abrasions to his head and hands. Following evaluations the officer was released from the care of Chenango Memorial Hospital, according to authorities.
Nicholas C. Degristina, 23, of Burlington Flats was arrested for the misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated with a BAC level of .14 percent, as well as other traffic tickets.
On February 2, 2016, New York State Police at Oneonta arrested Degristina, after responding to an Otsego County 911 report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries at approximately 7:24 p.m., on County Route 18 at State Route 80 in the Town of Pittsfield.
The arrest of Degristina occurred at about 8:04 p.m., and was carried out by members of the New York State Police at Oneonta.
An investigation determined that Degristina was driving southbound on County Route 18 in a 2017 Jeep Wrangler, when he failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, and instead attempted to turn left onto State Route 80 heading eastbound.
This failure to yield the right of way resulted in the motor vehicle accident, where Degristina crashed into a New Berlin Police vehicle that was traveling westbound on State Highway 80.
Degristina was allegedly not injured as a result of the accident, according to The New York State Police.
Degristina was not held on bail but released after being processed according to The New York State Public Information Officer, Trooper Riegal.
Degristina was issued however issued tickets following his arrest and is set to return to the Town of Pittsfield Court on February 15, 2016.
