Norwich over Oneonta to close out the regular season
ONEONTA – The Norwich girls basketball team traveled to rival school Oneonta to hand the Yellowjackets a loss.
“We had a real nice start. I think we were leading 13-0 at the beginning of the game,” said head coach Josh Bennett.
The game would lead after the first quarter by a commanding 21-8 lead.
This stellar early game play for the Tornado would fade some midway through the game as the Tornado would be matched in scoring with Oneonta at 11-11 in the second quarter. The Norwich girls would still hold a slight lead at the half 32-19.
“From there(first quarter) the game got a bit sloppy. Got very physical and they kid of turned us into playing a bit sloppy,” said Bennett.
The second half of play for the Tornado would go in their favor ultimately despite a semi-rocky third quarter.
“We got some balanced scoring however and we defended well in pockets.
Just gotta clean up our play in the next week and be ready,” said Bennett.
With a 55-41 win over the Yellowjackets the Tornado conclude their regular season play on a high note with 13-5 record, and now must prepare to play Binghamton high school next wednesday in the conference playoffs.
Leading scorer on the night for Norwich was number 13, Makenzie Maynard who scored 13 on the night. While the Yellowjackets leading scorer, number 2, Taylor Microni would earn 10-points.
“Need to be ready for our conference playoffs next Wednesday with a TOUGH Binghamton team,” said Bennett.
