Man indicted on sex crimes appears in court

NORWICH – Chenango County Court convened Monday afternoon for the indictment of Jared S. Quackenbush as well as a separate matter that Quackenbush is involved in.
Jared S. Quackenbush, 20, of North Norwich was indicted by a grand jury in February.
Quackenbush was represented by his attorney, John Cameron, while First Assistant District Attorney Michael D. Ferrarese was present on behalf of the people.
The Honorable Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr. presided over Chenango County Court on Monday, Feb. 22.
The grand jury indicted Quackenbush earlier this month on charges of sexual abuse in the first degree, a class D felony; forcible touching, a class A misdemeanor; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
The charges allege that Quackenbush on Dec. 28, 2015, while in the Town of North Norwich, subjected a 15-year-old girl to sexual contact by forcibly holding ther down while touching her.
The indictment alleges that this was done for the purpose of Quackenbush’s own sexual desire.
“On behalf of my client, we would like to waive the reading of all the charges and enter not-guilty pleas to all at this time,” said Cameron.
Revoir said that this was acceptable to the court and that motions would be filed within 45-days.
Ferrarese was given a chance to speak, saying, “The people are asking for $10,000 cash bail and on the violation of probation matter that he be remanded to the correctional facility.”
Revoir set bail at the amount of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond on the matter relating to the indictment before he addressed a separate violation of probation matter.
The violation of probation alleges that Quackenbush was picked up on a bench warrant and that on April of 2015, was charged with attempted burglary and thus placed on probation.
Cameron spoke on behalf of his client and waived a reading of the violations before stating that they would deny all allegations at this time.
Quackenbush was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility to await a future court date.
It should be noted that there is potentially other criminal cases in progress or pending in Norwich City Court and other local courts.
No more information is known at this time with regard to the violation of probation, but it will be reported when it is made available.
An order of protection was issued by the court for the 15-year old girl in the matter.
