Historical Society gears up for flea market, Maple Sunday events

NORWICH – The Chenango County Historical Society is gearing up for its second flea market of the year. Drawing off what event coordinators dubbed a successful first round, the upcoming event will feature everything from antiques and collectibles, to household items, toys, books, and all the “stuff” in between.
The flea market will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the VFW on East Main Street in Norwich.
Coordinators say booth spaces are still available for $20. Proceeds benefit the Historical Society and its mission to support research, education, and enjoyment of Chenango County’s history and historically significant assets.
“Our first flea market went very well. We had more attendance than we did last year,” said CCHS Executive Director Sarah Mahan. “It’s a great event that supports what we do. It includes everything from garage sale type things to collectibles, and from crafters and everything else.”
Mahan said there’s no admittance fee to Sunday’s flea market, thanks to sponsorship and support from the VFW Post 2782, Wilson Funeral Home, Inc., LaMonica Agency, LLC, and NBT Bank.
In addition to the flea market, Mahan noted that CCHS is also readying for Maple Sunday, an annual event celebrating all things maple in Chenango County.
Maple Sunday was put on hold last year due to construction on the CCHS campus.
“We’re happy to have it return again this year,” said Mahan. “Back in 2014, (CCHS) held our fourth Maple Sunday event ... We’re looking forward to another great, education family-friendly event this year, in recognition and honor of lour local maple industry and producers.”
Maple Sunday will be from noon to 3 p.m. March 13 at the CCHS museum on Rexford Street. Various area agriculture educational groups and organizations will be on hand with displays and products for sale.
CCHS invites maple syrup and other maple product producers to set up and sell their products at no charge. Interested producers should contact the museum for more information.
Further information is also available on the CCHS website: www.chenangohistorical.org, or by calling 334-9227.
