Heroin awareness at B-G: Dinner, Dessert and Direct Talk
BAINBRIDGE – Law enforcement, addiction organizations, affected families, Senator Fred Akshar, and more than 300 community members are expected to attend a heroin awareness program Wednesday, March 9, at the Bainbridge-Guilford High School.
It is the YES LEADS groups at the Afton and Bainbridge High Schools that are co-sponsoring the event dubbed “Dinner, Dessert and Direct Talk.”
This event is free and open to the public, with a pizza dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The heroin awareness program is set to begin promptly at 6 p.m.
YES LEADers will provide supervised open gym for students in Grades K-5 for the duration of the event.
According to a release from the organization sponsoring the event, hundreds of students and families are expected to attend.
According to the ‘YES! Safe Choices for Kids’ website, YES is a unique youth leadership program focused on drug and alcohol prevention that educates young people about the dangers of substance abuse.
“Each year, YES trains over 500 middle and high school students to serve as positive role models for younger students. These students in turn work with thousands of elementary and middle school students through hands-on presentations and activities to promote safe choices,” reads YES’s website.
The organization stresses that parents remain the most important influence in their child’s life and the strongest factor in drug prevention.
The Bainbridge High School is located at 18 Juliand St., Bainbridge.
Those who wish to register in advance can do so at www.yessafechoices.org/events/afton-bainbridge-guilford-heroin-awareness-night.
