NORWICH – Thursday marks the holiday of St. Patrick's Day, and that means that the City of Norwich will be celebrating with the annual Irish flag raising ceremony.
The event will be held in East Park in downtown Norwich at noon with Chenango County Court Judge Frank B. Revoir leading the ceremonies as the Master.
City of Norwich Mayor Christine Carnrike will also be in attendance for the festivities, in addition to the Claddaugh Ring Dancers performing Irish dance.
The Norwich City Police Department is proud to be involved again this year. NPD officers will conduct the actual raising of the flag.
Guest singer Allison Beckwith, a 9th grade student from Oxford High School, will show off her musical talent as she sings “The Star Spangled Banner.”
The Annual Irish Flag Raising was originally started through the efforts of then Chenango County Court Judge Howard Sullivan who was able to organize each year a number of individuals for the event. The tradition celebrates the heritage of Irish culture right here in the Norwich community, and has since been passed along to the current Chenango County Court Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr. who each year acts as the Master of the ceremonies.
All ages are welcome to attend this free event in the heart of downtown that celebrates the community’s Irish heritage on this joyous holiday.
