Traffic stop leads to heroin and cocaine arrests
NORWICH – Previously on March 11, the Village of Greene Police Department arrested Clifton J. Brooks aka 'C', 49, of Binghamton as well as two other local individuals for drug related charges.
Brooks was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor; and tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony.
Austin B. Hutchins, 21, of Sherburne and Brock A. Strozier, 34, also of Sherburne were the two individuals also arrested at the time. Both Hutchins and Strozier were charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.
It is alleged that Brooks was arrested following a traffic stop in the Village of Greene, and that while in custody attempted to destroy plastic bags containing cocaine and heroin that he had on his person.
Brooks was arraigned in the Village of Greene court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail.
Hutchins and Strozier were found to be in possession of hypodermic needles at the time of the stop and were issued appearance tickets to return to the Village of Greene Court at a later date.
It has been reported that on the very next day on March 12, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brooks for further drug related offenses during the booking process.
It is alleged that while being processed into the CCSO, that Correctional Officers located crack cocaine and heroin, some of which was within a foot bandage.
Brooks was then charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony; introducing prison contraband in the first degree, a class D felony; and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor.
Brooks is currently held in the Chenango County Correctional Facility and scheduled to appear in the Town of Norwich Court later today, March 17, for an arraignment on these newest charges.
