Upstate NY man charged after stray bullet hits school bus

COLESVILLE (AP) - State police say a 22-year-old upstate New York man has been charged after he accidentally shot a school bus while target shooting.
Troopers say a single bullet hit the driver’s side of the Harpusville Central School bus as it traveled last Wednesday on a road in the Broome County town of Colesville, near Binghamton.
Police say the bullet didn’t penetrate the bus and none of the students on board were injured.
Troopers say the round was fired by one of two people who were target shooting on their private property. Police say the stray round traveled about a third of a mile before hitting the bus.
Troopers charged Lucas Alapeck with illegally possessing a large-capacity ammunition device capable of holding 30 rounds. He’s free on his own recognizance. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
