Route 12 northbound shut down temporarily following two-car MVC Wednesday

NORWICH – Shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, the Norwich Emergency Response team toned over the scanner regarding a two-car motor vehicle accident on Route 12 heading out of The City of Norwich.

The accident did involve a vehicle driven by one male who was accompanied by one female as his passenger, both requiring medical attention.

At this time the identities of these two has not been released.

According to City of Norwich Fire Chief Tracy Chawgo the State DOT workers had parked their vehicle alongside the road on Route 12 and were working to dig out the trenches when their vehicle was struck.

“Vehicle was heading north bound on Route 12, the driver had some sort of medical event and veered off into the work zone and hit the State DOT Truck corner to corner,” said Chawgo. “The passenger tried to arouse him, and she couldn’t and then they hit the truck.”
