Akshar seeks input in ‘Community Voice Survey’
CHENANGO COUNTY – Chenango County residents may have noticed a survey in their mailbox from the office of Senator Fred Akshar this week.
The 12-question Community Voice Survey gives residents in the 52nd Senate District a chance to weigh-in on issues they feel should be prioritized in Albany this year. Survey questions range in topics from the $15 an hour statewide minimum wage proposal and pension retention for corrupt public officials to hot-button issues like gun control, mixed martial arts, and the heroin epidemic.
There’s also space for people to comment on issues they think should be heeded in Albany but aren’t addressed directly in the senator’s survey.
“The only way we can be successful as a community is when local representatives actively work to make sure the hardworking people they represent can be heard,” said Akshar.
The Survey follows a series of “Pop-Up Office” events held in eight locations across the district. Those events commonly draw crowds of 10-80 people to discuss various issues.
Paper surveys were mailed to thousands of households across the 52nd Senate District last week, but residents can also complete the survey online at Akshar.NYSenate.Gov.
Said Akshar, “Since starting my new job in November, it’s been my honor to travel across our 52nd Senate District and listen to business owners, teachers, families and taxpayers. I’ve also been blessed to have lots of meaningful conversations on local issues at our Pop-Up Office events everywhere from the Whole in the Wall restaurant in Binghamton, to the McDonough American Legion, to the Owego Kitchen in downtown Owego.”
Akshar said his legislative agenda has been heavily influenced by conversations had at community events throughout the region. Priority issues to date have included his Small Business Jobs Revitalization Act, his support for the Planting Seeds Initiative to promote local Upstate farms, and his opposition to the governor’s $15 per hour minimum wage proposal.
