All things maple

What better way to “tap into spring” than by celebrating all things maple? Come to the season’s final Oxford Winter Farmers’ Market, this Saturday, April 2, to stock up on maple products by local producers. The market runs from 10 a.m.—1 p.m., at the Parish House Community Center of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Main Street in Oxford.
Also known as maple molasses, maple nectar, and tree sugar - maple syrup is an important and delectable product from our region, one that signals the advent of spring. The Oxford Historical Society will present a display of historical items and photographs documenting local sugaring history. Watch for the plume of steam as you make your way to the market—Peter Van Buiten will be just outside the Parish House, demonstrating the sap-boiling process. Freshly made 2016 maple syrup, candy, and cream will be offered by local producers Oxford Maple Producers, Vigus Enterprise, Mead’s Maple Products, and Joslyn Road Maple Farm. Other maple-infused items will include Lilac Hill Farm’s Sunflower Maple Granola, Dianne Lewis’s maple cookies, and Flour Power’s Maple-Bacon Cupcakes topped with maple-butter cream frosting. For shoppers 21 and older, don’t leave the market without sampling Black Bear Winery’s Maple Dream wine and Cracklin’ Maple hard cider.
Join your neighbors to celebrate the coming of spring and stock up on produce, baked goods, kitchen staples, handmade soaps, fiber products, and handcrafted items. Chef Dan of the Parish House Kitchen is fixing up his famous Chenango County Cheesesteaks for “Local Lunch” made with market-sourced ingredients, and the Hammerle Hill Fiddlers will entertain.
