Winter’s ‘last hurrah?’

CHENANGO COUNTY – A widespread winter storm hit all corners of Chenango County Monday morning, leaving many people wondering if this is April or January.

Snow, sleet, and freezing rain was blamed for a rough morning commute for many travelers. Meanwhile, all eight school districts in Chenango County and DCMO BOCES were closed Monday and activities canceled.

Early predictions from the National Weather Service had the Chenango County area pegged to get four to six inches of snow between Sunday night and Monday morning. An additional one to three inches of accumulation was predicted through mid-day Monday.

“We had a combination of snow and wind that caused some travel headaches and power outages throughout the county. Then (Monday) morning, snow mixed with sleet and freezing rain, and that created some slick roads,” said Chenango County Emergency Management Officer A. Jones.
