NORWICH – Various other individuals took the stand as witnesses for the prosecution in the case of the People vs. John M. Guzy. Below are highlights from some of the witnesses.

• Brett Cowen – Attorney

Cowen alleged that he was driving by Peak Fitness the day of the incident and watched as the vehicles were parked and individuals exited the vehicle. “I noticed two vehicles pulled off, not in parking spaces, just pulled off the road,” said Cowen. “The vehicles weren't a great distance apartmaybe 10 to 15 feet. I couldnt hear anything but you could tell it wasnt a calm conversation.”

Bergman was given a chance to question the witness and handed him a copy of the police report that Cowen previously gave. Inside the police report, the distance of the cars and what the altercation looked like were called into question.

• Karen M. Vanmeulen – employee next door

Vanmuelen is a employee of the business next door to Peak Fitness, Silicon Solar, who has claimed to have seen the incident briefly while checking the mail that day. “I glanced to my left and saw three men grappling, atleast 30 to 45 seconds later I heard a pop, pop, pop, and then a car screeching out,” said Vanmuelen.

During a chance for Cross examination Bergman inquired as to how many pops she had heard.

“Five or six, I didnt necessarily recognize them as a gunshot,” said Vanmuelen.
