HARPURSVILLE – In what was a hotly contested affair from both sides last Monday, Apr. 18, the Unadilla Valley varsity softball team fell victim to Harpursville by four runs, 12-8.
The Harpursville offense remained consistent throughout the game, scoring runs in all but the third inning, as once again, the Storm’s nemesis came in the form of errors. “This was a very disappointing loss for us,” said UV head coach Hanna Johnson. “Errors have hurt us to start out the season, causing us to lose close games that we should be able to win.”
Best in the loss for the Storm was Abbie Oglesby, who went two for three on the day, with a grand slam. Despite how the score line may indicate, starting pitcher Tia Peck had a pretty solid outing, striking out seven and yielding four walks. Johnson, like many others, believes that defense is key to winning Championships, saying, “Although we are able to compete with teams, we feel as a whole that in order for us to get over the hump, we need to clean up our defense.”
