WATERVILLE – In game one of a two-game stint, the Sherburne-Earlville varsity softball team came out narrow losers in a hard fought game against Waterville, on a score line of 6-4.
Things did not look good for the Marauders, and by the end of the fifth inning, they were facing a 6-0 deficit. However, they refused to give up. They clawed one run back in the sixth, and three in the seventh, but unfortunately it just wasn’t enough, and they succumbed to the defeat.
Despite the dynamic pitching duo of Crystal Beckwith and Mattie Gunther only allowing five hits, it was four errors that inevitably led to the tough loss. Miranda Wright finished two for four, with a triple, while Emily Stanton went one for two, with a three-run homer in the loss.
FRANKFORT-SCHUYLER – In their next game, yesterday, Apr. 20, the Marauders were once again on the wrong end of a tough loss. After a five-run sixth inning, they held a one run lead going into the final inning. Somehow, Frankfort-Schuyler managed to tie the game in the seventh, before going on to clinch the tight victory in extra innings.
It was a terrific performance from S-E pitcher Beckwith, who pitched the entire eight innings, allowing only seven hits and giving up just one earned run. Errors were once again the Achilles heel for the Marauders, as they committed 11 throughout the game. Miranda Wright was on top form at the plate again, going three for five, with two doubles and four runs batted in, while Taylor Hallberg ended the day two for five, with two RBI’s.
