SHERBURNE – A new store in the rural hills of Sherburne has officially opened its doors for business, giving local consumers an alternative venue to suit their regional tastes.
The Apron Strings Country Store at 3694 State Highway 80 in Sherburne offers an assortment of farm direct meats, seasonal produce and local products. With farm meat direct from local farms, and regional produce from Virgina north and Ohio east, store co-owner Robin Mizrahi said the new store appeals to folks looking for that feel-good home town flavor.
“On our shelves, I would say 90 percent of the products are from New York, Pennsylvania or Ohio,” said Mizrahi. “Most of our stuff is local to New York. We wanted a place where people can find their farmers market favorites all the time, all year round.”
Mizrahi, along with her life partner Tom Yerton, a native to the Sherburne area, had pondered the idea of a local mom and pop-type country store for years. As farm owners themselves raising beef, pork, and chicken – and producing Mizrahi granola – opening a store in farm country just seemed like a natural fit, said Yerton.
“We were able to put our cattle and other animals here as well,” he said. “It’s actually better than any other place we looked at ... I think it’s going to work out.”
The Apron Strings has a website in development where customers will be able to learn more. Additional information can also be found by calling the store directly at 674-6249.
