Lady Bobcats fall to third straight defeat

BAINBRIDGE – After their terrific 12 hit performance against Hancock, the Bainbridge-Guilford varsity softball offense could only muster up three hits against dominant Afton pitcher A. Greenwood, suffering their third straight defeat, on a score line of 5-1.
This game was a pitchers duel from start to finish. B-G’s Kori Thornton pitched an entire game, yielding just six hits and four earned runs, while striking out an impressive 12 batters. On the other side, Afton’s Greenwood was also masterful throughout her 6 and two thirds innings pitches, giving up just three hits, one earned run and striking out eight on her way to victory.
Best in the loss for the Bobcats was Kori Thornton, who went .500 at the plate on the day on two for four, while A. Alford shone in the win for Afton, driving in three out of five total RBI’s for her team.
B-G will be hoping to reverse their fortunes when they face off against Hancock in a rematch next Wednesday, May 4. That contest is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
