Lady Storm come from behind on senior night

NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley varsity softball team hosted the girls from Delaware Academy in the first round of the MAC mini tournament, earning the win at 10-6.
The first round of the MAC tournament, also saw UV celebrate their six graduating seniors after the games completion: Jackie Smith, Alex Bodie, Shania Crandall, Kaleigh Fairchild, Blaize Kolvik, and Lauren Lloyd.
Delhi would ultimately jump out on top of UV at 2-0 in the first inning, due to some sloppy infield errors on UV's part.
“We struggled as a team in the first 3 innings to convert on easy defensive plays,” said UV head coach Hannah Johnson.
Unadilla Valley would recover somewhat in the third when they strung together some solid hits and even better base running to earn two runs in their favor. Delhi would answer with a run of their own in that inning, drawing the score to 3-2.
“Down 6-3 going into the bottom of the fifth, we knew we needed to score some runs,” said Johnson in regards to the three runs Delhi posted in the top of the fifth.
UV answered the call on senior night when they strung together a three-run inning in the bottom of the fifth, drawing the gap to one-run at 6-5.
UV's pitcher, Tia Peck, and her defense behind her rallied late to hold off the Delhi batters, blanking them in the sixth and seventh innings.
Peck would throw out eight strikeouts on the day to go with only three walks.
The batters for UV strung together a solid inning to take the lead for the win in the sixth inning. Earning five runs in the sixth inning, taking the lead at 10-6, for ultimately the win.
UV batters: Abbie Oglesby 2-3 three RBI's a second base hit and four stolen bases, Blaize Kolvik 2-3 two RBI's and three stolen bases, Kaleigh Fairchild 2-2 with four stolen bases, while Jackie Smith, Alysa Mumbulo, Shania Crandall each earned an RBI on the day.
“We got a contribution from everyone on the team,” said Johnson.
UV will host Oxford at home in the second round of the MAC mini tournament, Tuesday, May 10, at 4:30 p.m.
