Wildcats drop Tornado in late innings on senior night

NORWICH – The Norwich varsity softball team concluded their last scheduled regular season game on May 12, giving up lead in late stages of the game, ultimately losing to visiting Johnson City 3-1.

Prior to the start of the game ,Norwich recognized their seven graduating seniors: Shannon Moore, Jordan Sanford, Hannah Eddy, Kassidy Seary, Bridget Murphy, Shelby Benjamin, Carey Sheldon.

It was the bottom of the third inning when Norwich would take the slight lead over the Wildcats of JC.

With Airelle Jacquette in scoring position on third base, senior Shannon Moore would connect with the ball, ultimately grounding out to first base but allowing the run to come in for the Tornado.

The 1-0 lead for Norwich continued into the top of the fifth, when JC answered back with four singles and runner safe at first due to a defensive call.

“Four singles and a bad defensive play and thats their three runs,” said Norwich head coach Scott Moore.

Norwich would try to rally in the bottom of the sixth and again in the seventh, as they seemed to be connecting well with JC's pitcher, Mackenzie Carlin.
