Error ridden inning steals win from Blackhawks baseball

OXFORD – Coming off their win in the first round of the MAC Mini Tournament, beating Walton 14-3, Oxford earned a home game facing off against Unatego on May, 10.

The Blackhawks lost to Unatego 5-0, and were looking for improvement on the day, however, ultimately lost 8-2.

“We had one bad half of an inning, that is all it took,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “That half a inning was the whole story, we played very well other than that.”

Oxford would take the early 2-1 lead heading into the fifth inning. Prior to the fifth inning Oxford had only committed one error, while Unatego was errorless.

“Fourth inning we strung together some hits. We thought it was going to be a low scoring so other than the errors we probably would have been right,” said Palmer.

The fifth inning saw the close 2-1 game turnaround quickly on The Blackhawks when they committed six errors in their one half of the inning, allowing seven runs in for Unatego.

“Dylan Depew pitched, he pitched well tonight. We only gave up three hits in the game and only one earned run,” explained Palmer.
