Lady Marauders lock up win on senior night
SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville varsity softball team earned their 4-2 win over Frankfort-Schuyler on May 12.
Prior to the start of the 4:30 p.m. Thursday evening game, SE celebrated their six graduating seniors: Sierra Barker, Kaitlynn Howard, Savannah Irwin, Crystal Beckwith, Taylor Hallberg, and Kaylee Scott.
This home game, SE elected to wear pink as well, as they celebrated cancer awareness as well.
After a heartfelt celebration from the parents and fans, it was Frankfort-Schuyler that jumped on the scoreboard semi-early in the game earning a run in the third inning. SE would surrender another run in favor of the Knights of FS in the fifth inning, drawing the game to 2-0. In dire straits and knowing the innings were running out, four different girls knocked in RBI's in the sixth inning to take the final late lead.
“We won 4-2, we needed the win and the girls played great,” said SE head coach Michelle Parker.
SE batters: Emily Stanton 2-3 with a run and an RBI, Sierra Barker 1-4, Sarah Genter 2-4 with an RBI, Crystal Beckwith 1-3 with a run, Mackenzie Holmes 0-3 with a run, Alexis Kane 3-3 with a run and an RbI, and Savannah Irwin 0-4 with an RBI.
Surprisingly, SE committed a monster nine errors on the night compared to only four from FS. However, the ability to stay resilient and rebound from these errors while capitalizing off of the other teams mistakes proved enough to edge the win from FS.
On the mound for SE was Crystal Beckwith, who pitched the entire game only walking one player and allowing the two earned runs, however, Beckwith was backed up by her defense as she only managed one strikeout.
For Frankfort-Schuyler Danielle Florentigo pitched throwing out only one strikeout as well to go with her no walks.
SE varsity softball (2-11) will be away Friday, May 13 when they head to Canastota at 4:30 p.m.
