Tornado baseball closes season out

NORWICH – The Norwich varsity baseball squad concluded their 2016 campaign with a loss to visiting Johnson City at 9-2, on May 11.

“I have coached a long time in Norwich and we have had good teams and bad teams. I don’t know if I have enjoyed a better group of kids,” said Norwich head coach Rich Turnbull.

Norwich would earn the go-ahead run in the second inning at 2-1, after giving up an early run to JC in the first inning.

However, with runners on base, Norwich would suffer through some costly outs when sending guys home for the score, to close out the second inning.

Following the productive second, Norwich just couldn’t seem to get things moving in their direction again as they failed to secure another run, ultimately surrendering eight more runs to JC who would chip away the rest of the game.

Five errors in the fielding of the ball on Norwich's part ultimately helped JC earn some of the runs, compared to JC's fielding which only yielded one error on the day.
