Oxford softball reaches season goal in final game
OTSELIC VALLEY – The Oxford varsity softball team concluded their 2016 season in fashion this past Wednesday, May 11, by defeating Otselic Valley 24-5.
“They did a wonderful job, they really worked hard. They hit really well this evening, they were patient, we had a lot of strikeouts on our side, but we had 13-hits,” said head coach Heather Pizza of her teams performance.
Oxford would lay on the runs early on with six in the first inning and four in the second inning; while OV attempted to keep pace scoring exactly half of the Blackhawks total in runs with three in the first and two in the second.
“We had quite a few stolen bases, the girls are always very aggressive with base running,” said Pizza.
Oxford would use the aggressive base-running in the game to earn an impressive seven stolen bases, something that heavily contributed to the massive win to end the season.
Already up 10-5 heading into the third inning, Oxford enjoyed a massive inning in the third when they scored eight additional runs.
Pitching for Oxford on the day was Karly Marshman, who pitched the entire five innings before mercy ruling OV. Marshman gained eight strikeouts in that five inning stretch, only walking five OV batters.
