Late mistakes lead to Bobcat win

AFTON – Powerhouse varsity softball team, Afton dropped a late inning loss to the girls of Bainbridge-Guilford at 7-5, on May 11.

The Bobcats of BG would earn the early game lead over Afton after earning one run in the first inning and and two more in the second. However, Afton would secure the tie with a three-run inning in the third, only to take the late game lead by one with a run in the sixth, leading 4-3 at the time.

Riley Smith of BG would start the game on the mound, pitching the first two innings before Kori Thornton came in in relief for the remaining five innings.

Smith would manage an impressive five strikeouts in just two innings, while Thornton added on another six in the final five innings.

It was an error ridden seventh inning collapse that allowed BG back into the game, as they scored four runs to claim the lead late.
