Vehicle collides with Oxford storefront, business remains closed
OXFORD – The Oxford Police and Fire Departments responded to report of a motor vehicle accident involving personal injury and property damage at the Dollar General on North Washington Avenue in the Village of Oxford on Monday afternoon.
Upon arrival to the scene, authorities discovered a male driver had accidentally pressed the gas instead of the brake while in the process of parking and his vehicle subsequently drove through the Dollar General. Extensive damage was caused to the south side of the Dollar General, an employee and one customer were injured as a result of the collision. The customer, whose identity was no released by authorities, was transported by ambulance to Chenango Memorial Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
The driver, Frank Kriz, age 79, of Oxford, was ticketed and the vehicle was driven away from the scene by another driver.
Contractors worked into the evening to temporarily stabilize the section of wall that was damaged as a result of the incident.
A spokesperson from the retailer indicated that the business was closed following the accident Monday evening, and was unsure when the store would reopen, pending completion of repairs to the building.
