Norwich sends top throwers to The Parkhurst Rotary Invitational
UNION ENDICOTT – This past Saturday, May 14, The Norwich Track and Field throwers traveled to the annual Parkhurst Invitational, and enjoyed some individual successes.
Norwich would elect to bring one girl thrower and three throwers on the boys side.
The lone girl thrower, Katelyn Shaver would finish in eighteenth place with 8-points of her own; while the three boys, Thomas Reilly, David Bernstein, and Trevor McCarthy finished in eleventh with 18-points. These standings are out of the over twenty teams that were at the Invitational.
Katelyn Shaver would enjoy a solid outing with a third place finish in the shot put event and a fifth place finish in the discus.
Shaver would only slightly be edged for second place in the shot put by Jaden Finch of Maine Endwell, Finch threw a 36'03” throw for the second place finish besting Shaver who threw a 34'03”. Alexus Daniels of Binghamton would win the event with a 46'06”.
Shaver would ultimately claim the fifth place spot in the discus with a 96'02” throw, edging out Waverly's Fallon Huck for a top five finish.
On the boys side, it was Thomas Reilly who enjoyed the greatest success on the day. Reilly walked away the champion in the boys shot put with a winning throw of 48'10.25”, besting the second place finisher from Sidney who only managed a 46'10.5”.
Reilly's teammate, David Bernstein would secure a top ten finish, landing in ninth place, with a solid throw of 39'03”.
Bernstein would turn right around in the discus for a second place finish. Bernstein would only be edged by Brandon Holliday of Sidney who had the winning throw of 155'9”, to which Bernstein threw an impressive 145'.
Trevor McCarthy would enjoy some success when he landed himself in the top ten in the discus with a throw of 121'08”, a seasons best.
Next up for all of the boys and girls of the Norwich Track and Field team, they will be competing in the STAC Championships meet later on today, May 19, at 3 p.m.
