Holland-Patent finish Lady Marauders season
SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville varsity softball team concluded their 2016 season with a loss to Holland-Patent at home on May 19, losing 11-4.
Holland-Patent (HP) would jump out to 6-0 lead over SE, with four runs scored in the first inning to open the game, followed by an additional two in the second.
SE's pitching and defense would quiet HP for inning in the third when they managed to keep them off home plate, and regain some focus.
On the mound for SE for the first five innings was senior Crystal Beckwith, before junior Mattie Gunther would come in for the final two innings. Beckwith would record two strikeouts in her final time on the field as a Marauder, while only allowing one walk. Gunther would tack on another strikeout for her side, but would walk five batters.
On Holland-Patents side, their pitcher, Bridgett Howard, would secure the win by only allowing seven hits on the night, while striking out six SE batters, walking only one in the entire seven innings.
SE would allow another three runs to be scored on them in the fourth inning, before they managed to rally together for a four run inning themselves in the sixth.
