Purple Tornado sends two representatives to NYS Tournament

ITHACA – This past Thursday and Saturday, on May 19, and 21, Norwich varsity golf sent three accomplished golfers to compete in the Section IV tournament for the possibility to qualify for the New York State Tournament.

Alex Gage, Brenon Maynard, and Ryan Johnson traveled with their head coach Dave Branham to the par 71, Cornell Golf Course.

The first day of the tournament, held on Thursday saw all 53 of section IV's top golfers compete for one of nine of the roster spots that would be heading to represent Section IV at the state level.

The first day saw Gage shoot a 90, followed by Maynard who shot a 88, and Johnson who shot an 81.

“The low 20 advanced to the next day, so all three of our guys advanced,” explained coach Branham.

The second go around on the course saw junior post another 81 on the day. Johnson would ultimately place fifth overall, qualifying him as a representative. This marks the second year Johnson will be heading to the state level.
