NORWICH – The City of Norwich is reminding residents of the rules and regulations pertaining to above ground pools that residents’ put in their back yards.

With summer just weeks away, the Norwich Codes Office is encouraging residents who are considering an inflatable or storable pool as an alternative to an above ground pool to also consider the regulations those pools must meet to comply with New York State codes.

Per NYS code, all above ground pools – including inflatable and storable pools – must be enclosed within a four foot high fence if the pool is capable of holding 24 inches or more of water. Traditional above ground pools with solid walls at least 48 inches above grade are exempt from the fencing requirements if the pool ladder is removable or lockable.
