Wilderness Pride exhibit on display at downtown gallery
NORWICH — The Jill Kraft Gallery, found within The Artists' Palette located at 17-19 South Broad Street in downtown Norwich, is pleased to announce the opening of its first gallery exhibit of the 2016 season.
The exhibit will continue through June 14.
The season premiere will feature newly discovered Norwich senior artist Carolee Eldridge who has immersed herself in her art since early childhood.
From teaching children’s art classes and creating restaurant and home wall murals, to acrylic on canvas, watercolor (and most recently portraits from photos), Eldridge’s work embodies the true essence of a multi-media artist.
The gallery showcase at The Artists' Palette will exhibit Eldridge's “Wilderness Pride” series.
“I owe my love of the wilderness to my late dad, who taught me the values of pure nature,” said Eldridge.
With a career that included working as an illustrator of marine life for the Field Guide to eastern Shores Marine Environments for Coastal Education, Eldridge and four other women opened the Creative Arts Center in Cape Cod.
The center is now an active and vibrant center for the arts. Eldridge was a pivotal artist and helped create an annual juried arts festival there. The artist has also been a sign painter and free lance illustrator for several years.
As for her talent, Eldridge says that she owes a great deal of credit to her higher power that “just used her as a vessel” to enlighten people to the arts.
According to Kraft, the gallery caters to artist’s of all mediums, and regularly showcases private and group showings in the months of May through September. Gallery openings will be held every third Thursday of the month.
“With all of the exciting activities taking place in downtown Norwich throughout the summer months, several merchants – including the Artists' Palette – have been brainstorming ways to bring local artists, performers, businesses and nonprofits together,” said Kraft.
Kraft indicated that the small collaborative is in the concept phase of offering a “walk of art” once a month on Thursday evenings.
“At this point, we're seeking artists who wish to participate in one-night showings or 30-day showings as part of this effort,” said Kraft. “I’m delighted to have Eldridge on hand for the first show of the season. Her work is natural and free.”
Both small and large-scale work will be on display, and the gallery is regularly open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Gallery shows at the Jill Kraft Gallery are always free and open to the public.
