Klecha and Anderson score, as Greene competes in the Class C meet
SIDNEY – The boys and girls of the Greene varsity track and field team traveled over to Sidney for the annual Section IV Class C Meet, last Thursday, May 26., at Sidney high school.
Out of the seventeen teams which were present for the meet, the boys would finish in fourteenth with only two-points scored. The eventual winner on the boys side would be Dryden who locked up the team win with 112-points.
The Lady Trojans wouldn’t fair much better as a team overall, as they would score just two-points, ending them in sixteenth place. The winner on the girls side was Newark Valley with 87-points.
Despite the low team scoring, their were some standout efforts made individually by both the boys and girls.
Boys:
• 400 meter dash saw the winning time go to Tor Wildenstein of Dryden with a 49.78. However, Greene's Nolan Scofield would run a 1:03.44 for a seventeenth place finish.
• In the 400 meter hurdles and with a time of 1:00.07, Jonny Polo Rankin of Tioga would earn the win. However, Greene's Greg Wynter would see some success with a seventh place finish, running a 1:03.69.
• 800 meter run saw the winner from Chenango Forks, Kevin Withers, run a winning time of 2:02.88. While Greene's Scofield would secure a twelfth place finish with a time of 2:19.70.
• Tor Wildenstein of Dryden would earn another win in the 200 meter dash with a blazing time of 22.68. Greene would see two of their sprinters, Jacob Arboit and Kevin GAO finish in twenty-first and twenty-fourth respectively with times of 26.34 and 26.43.
• The 4x400 meter relay saw Greene finish in a respectable ninth place when they ran a time of 4:01.73. The winning team from Dryden would edge out Notre Dame for the win, with a time of 3:35.20.
• Pole vault is where Greene would finally see some points role in when The Trojans Chris Klecha would clear the monster height of 11'0.1” for a fifth place finish. Jack Murphy of Trumansburg would earn the win in the event however, when he cleared 13'. Kevin GAO of Greene would land in eleventh place with a height of 9'06”.
• Discus would see Jacob Morrison of Unatego earn the win with a throw of 139'03”. The Trojans would see Jacob Arboit finish in twentieth with a throw of 93'9”, and Phil Nelson in thirty-second with a throw of 65'07”.
The boys from Greene would not place or compete in any other of the events on the day.
Girls:
• The 4x800 meter relay team from Greene would end in seventh place overall, respectfully running an 11:12.05. While the winners from Unatego would claim the win with a dominating time of 9:55.85.
• The 1500 meter run saw Katie Anderson of Greene earn the lone points on the girls side, when she posted a time worthy of fifth place. Anderson would run a 5:09.06 time, while the winner from Notre Dame, Chase Yoder would run a 4:57.06. Greene's Amanda Walker would finish in thirteenth, running a 6:21.06.
• The 400 meter dash saw Abbey Yatsko of Dryden claim the event as hers when she ran a solid 58.30 for the win. The lady Trojans would see Nicole Flohr run a respectable 1:06.09 for a ninth place finish. While Haley DeJager would finish in twelfth with a time of 1:10.46.
• The 400 meter hurdles also would go to Yatsko of Dryden, when she ran 1:06.23 to claim her second win. Mary Klecha of Greene would run a solid race, finishing in seventh with a time of 1:14.83.
• 800 meter run would see Trumansburg's Claire Melvin run a 2:19.84 for the win. Chloe Parks would finish in thirteenth for Greene with a 2:41.58, while Grace Retz would finish in seventeenth with a 2:51.85.
• 200 meter dash would go to Newark Valley's Courtney McNeil with a time of 26.07. Green's Flohr and Klecha would compete and post times of 28.67 and 30.71 respectively.
• 4x400 meter relay would ultimately go to Notre Dame when their squad would run a time of 4:08.20 for the win. Greene would finish in seventh as their team posted a superb time of 4:39.29.
• Haley DeJager of Greene would see action in the long jump, however, would land in twentieth place when she managed a 12'9” jump. The eventual winner in the long jump would be Mallory Stillman of Sidney would launched herself to a length of 17'2”.
The Trojan girls would not compete or place in any other events on the day.
Up next for both the girls and boys of Greene, they will be heading to Vestal to compete in the Section IV New York State Qualifier meet, later on today, June 2, for a chance to qualify for the upcoming New York State Championships. The start time for the meet in Vestal is set for 4 p.m.
