Local man admits guilt to December assualt

NORWICH – The case of Michael E. Lovette was heard when the Chenango County Court convened for a morning session on June 4.

Lovette, 52, of Norwich, appeared in court to face charges of assault in the second degree, a class D felony; criminal contempt in the first degree, a class E felony; assault in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, a class A misdemeanor.

According to Lovette’s indictment in December of 2015, it was alleged that on Dec. 6. 2015, at a residence on Hickory Street in the City of Norwich, Lovette intentionally caused physical injury to the victim. Lovette allegedly did so by repeatedly punching and choking the victim with both hands, causing serious disfigurement to the upper lip, as well as bruising and abrasions. These actions violated a previous order of protection that had been issued by the Norwich City Court on March 19, 2015.
