Perkins School of the Arts ‘rules the world’ at weekend recital
NORWICH – This weekend’s annual recital for the Perkins School of the Arts celebrates the closing of yet another successful year of professional dance and choreography within one of the most recognized institutions in the country.
For its 19th season, the Perkins School's senior class is comprised of an electric group of female dancers who have spent years honing their craft and polishing every detail of their “Rule the World” routine, to be unveiled to the general public for the first time this weekend.
Rule the world embraces the fleeting spirit of the group, with answers to the question: “What would you do if you ruled the world?” articulated in dance form.
“We have a very fun and extremely strong all-female lineup of dancers this year who have transformed this performance into a fun routine that primarily focuses on doing things their own way,” said Mikey Perkins, choreographer and instructor at the Perkins School of the Arts. “We've had a huge enrollment of part-time recreational dancers at the school this season, and the recital is their opportunity to showcase their individual personalities and incredible skill.”
Without giving away the whole performance, Perkins indicated that another piece billed “Line of Absurdity” juxtaposes the preposterous with the sensible.
“The annual recital is always a great experience, and every year our dancers are able to elevate the production value from the year before – and this season's recital will definitely keep in line with that,” said Perkins. “People in the community are always pleased at the caliber of talent we're able to pull out of the area, so the recital is our way of bringing that talent and professionalism to them.”
But while the Perkins School rounds out it's 19th season of instruction, the company will be busy throughout the summer enticing future performers through a series of Summer Fun Camps that introduce younger dancers to the world of creative movement throughout the month of July.
In addition, the Perkins School will once again offer its summer 'Intensive;' a more serious and in-depth training to both prospective students and professionals alike that matches participants with one-on-one and group experiences with members of the internationally acclaimed Phoenix Project Dance.
The Perkins School of the Arts Senior recital program will be held at the Norwich High School Auditorium located on Midland Drive in Norwich this Friday and Saturday evenings beginning at 7 p.m. The Junior recital is likewise slated for the same location on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $12 general admission and $20 VIP available for purchase online at perkinsdance.com, at the Perkins School of the Arts Norwich location at 38 Birdsall St., or at the door.
