NORWICH – 7-year-old Carmine Pastore had an unassisted triple play Monday night against Oxford in the Norwich-Oxford Little League Rookie Division.
The division is comprised of seven and eight year olds, and Pastore is a team member of the Iron Pigs.
Coach Brett Adoff said, “We are the Iron Pigs, just like the AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.”
Pastore’s unassisted triple play was considered impressive, to say the least.
“He caught a pop-fly, stepped on third – the bases were loaded and all runners went – and then tagged the runner coming from second to third,” said Adoff.
“It was truly awesome and is the greatest moment I’ve ever seen in Little League play,” added his coach.
Norwich-Oxford Little League’s Chief Information Officer Jason Miller attributed Pastore's skills and baseball acumen to the coaching Pastore received by him at the city winter clinics, offered by the Youth Bureau.
“Carmine is a great athlete, a remarkable teammate, and an amazing kid,” said Adoff. “He’s the epitome of what I look for in a player: A respectful, coachable kid that always tries his best and never gives up.”
The Iron Pigs went on to win and finished the season with an impressive 7-1 record for the season.
